Hi everyone! Since I am just starting this blog out, I thought my first post should be about us getting to know each other! So, where to start? How about a super short rundown of my life so far: I grew up in the East Bay in California, moved to San Francisco after high school to get my bachelor's degree in Japanese Language and Literature, moved south to the Peninsula after college, got engaged, moved way south to Orange County, went back to school for Fashion and Costume Design, got married, and here we are! I've always been interested in sewing and took all the Home Economics classes I could in middle school and high school because that was the only access to sewing exploration I had. I didn't know anyone who was in to sewing and no one in my family really knew how. I always was very in to "dressing up" since before I can remember. Always putting on my mom's clothes, wearing my Halloween costumes year-round, and always trying to get my friends to dress up with me - and when that didn't work I could usually get them to at least dress up Barbies with me! In high school I discovered Cosplaying and the Ren Faire. Before then I didn't really know that dressing up in costumes was something that a lot of people enjoyed - just like I wanted to do. I started going to Fanime in high school with friends, but lacked the confidence to try cosplaying myself for the first few years. Then one year I decided that I just wanted to go for it - that I was probably never going to really feel confident enough since I have pretty bad anxiety. So I threw together my first ever cosplay. I chose a character that I didn't feel very connected to, but liked and thought would be an easy costume. It did not look very good, but I was super proud of myself for wearing it anyway. Haha. My first cosplay of Panty from Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt in 2011. Since then I have created many more costumes - some cosplay, some Post-Apocalyptic, some historical, and some Fantasy themed. Thankfully my construction skills have increased as well as my posing! Haha. I also started to learn as much as I could about sewing so that in addition to the costumes I loved, I could also make everyday clothing as well. I often felt that I could never really find what I was looking for in clothing stores and always felt dissapointed that that was just how the clothing industry worked. So, I started to create my own super cutesy, nerdy, feminine style of clothing to wear! Once some friends and family started to see the things I was making they expressed interest in getting some for themselves! Hence me opening up my small etsy shop earlier this year! I very much enjoy being part of the creative community of costumers and seamstresses/tailors - I try to document my growth and journey so that I can help others and stay engaged with wonderful people who inspire me! I also did some videos on my youtube channel where I answer a bunch of questions from the Get to Know Me Tag!
